Sonoma County Library is here to help with your back-to-school needs

Are you a parent of a school-age child or children? A student yourself? Maybe you want to enrich your life and embark on your own personal learning journey. We've put together a list of resources that you may find useful during the school year...and beyond! All you need is a Sonoma County Library card to access the below resources.

School-Age

  • BookFlix pairs classic children’s picture books with a related nonfiction eBook. Puzzles, games, and age-appropriate web links allow kids to further explore.
  • Find educational eBooks and eAudiobooks, and stream movies, music, newspapers, and magazines, with eResources like Libby, by OverDrive and Kanopy. Enjoy children’s and teen collections through Libby, by OverDrive.
  • CultureGrams provides country reports on daily life and culture, including the background, customs, and lifestyles of the world's people.
  • Britannica School is the go-to site for learning more about any subject—for all grades and reading abilities.
  • MakeMake is entirely in Spanish and offers animated and interactive books and many more resources for parents and educators to help develop Spanish language literacy in children from birth through elementary school.
  • National Geographic Kids houses books, videos, magazines and pictures produced by National Geographic for children.
  • TeachingBooks.net and Book Connections add a multimedia dimension to the reading experiences of children's and young adult books.
  • Students of any age can connect with free tutors and more at Tutor.com.
  • ScienceFlix offers engaging science content for students spanning grades 4-10.
  • Science: Interactive helps students better visualize and understand concepts in biology, chemistry, earth, and space science.
  • Critically analyze and understand important topics that affect people around the world with periodicals and multimedia through Environmental Studies In Context.

Adult Education

  • The Sonoma County Library Adult Literacy & English Language Partners provides one-on-one tutoring for adults who want to improve their English language and reading and writing skills. Call 707-544-2622 for more information.

  • Students of any age can connect with free tutors and more at Tutor.com.
  • Great Courses are expertly-produced audio and video courses by professors such as Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Access the Great Courses collection on Kanopy, Libby, by OverDrive, and hoopla.
