Columbia Public Library 100th Anniversary Collection

The Columbia Public Library 100th Anniversary Collection is a culmination of research through local newspapers and the State Historical Society of Missouri archives by DBRL staff, in addition to items from the in-house DBRL archive of photographs and other ephemera. The library was housed in many different locations before it was permanently established in the current headquarters for the regional library system at 100 West Broadway. The Gentry Building is included in this collection, which now houses the Columbia Parks and Recreation offices. Some of the buildings are lost to the mists of time, including the Haden Opera House.

Missouri Bicentennial Collection

In acknowledgement of the Missouri Bicentennial, the Daniel Boone Regional Library has digitized several books in our reference collection that are important documents of the history of our service area. Included in these digital collections is the index to the Columbia Professional World, which was an African-American newspaper published in the early 1900s in Columbia, the 25th Anniversary commemorative edition of the Columbia Missouri Herald and its transcription, as well as a transcription of E.W. Stephens’ 1869 Boone County History. We believe that this collection will be helpful to genealogists and amateur historians and helps describe the colorful history of our area.

The Trouble With Normal/Boone Stigall Collection

"The Trouble With Normal" was an underground music 'zine started by Boone Stigall in Columbia, Missouri during the early 1990s. “The Trouble with Normal” touched on a variety of topics of the day, including the local music scene, national and local politics and environmental issues. This magazine, which is still published today in a digital format, is a seminal record of the vibrant music and arts scene in the 1990s and 2000s in one of the nation's great college towns.
